Do you cook a turkey for Thanksgiving?
Despite my flirtatious relationship with veganism, I do partake in some bird eating on holidays.
But I’m wondering of other ways to celebrate a main course, sans bird.
One vegetarian told me she puts the stuffing in between two pieces of bread and makes a sandwich. To which I asked, “Isn’t stuffing made of bread?”
“Yes,” she confirmed.
“So,” I reasoned slowly, “you’re just having a bread-filled sandwich.”
“It’s a lot of carbs, I realize.” She nodded as if already agreeing with me.
“No, it’s not the carbs, it’s just…a lot of, you know, BREAD.”
Sans bird ideas? Share, share, share!
Woah. I just read a bit of that article. Definitely interesting.
I have to say this…when it comes to food, there is no shortage of controversy. The truth evades itself from me when it comes to the benefits and health risks of vegan or vegetarian lifestyles. I can find opposing doctors, research, and theory to support whatever I want to believe. That makes it hard to make informed decisions when you can back up your decision regardless of what you decide.
In the end, I had my first bites of an egg the other day and – coincidence, maybe – but felt a rush of energy, worked out for long time and felt great. I reintroduced dairy in fuller force and felt a quite muddy. Not as light or clear, but energized. Give and take, give and take, I guess.
My point is that I love vegan recipes. I think they taste better and really *are* better for you. That being said there is NOTHING wrong with occasionally eating meat or animal based protein. I think the distorted belief that EVERY. SINGLE. MEAL. we eat must have part cow and cheese and animal influence is dead wrong.
I’m on my way to healthier lifestyles, and food is a part of it, but it’s not *all* of it.
The comment section of that article confirmed that for me, too. So much psychology, exercise, and overall self-care play a huge part in that as well. Thanks for the link!
I don’t have a relevant comment, at all really, but I thought this was interesting: http://voraciouseats.com/2010/11/19/a-vegan-no-more/
Not that I’m at all trying to talk you out of being however much vegan you are, or something…just interesting.
Lentil loaf. I made a couple for the last thanksgiving we did.
I’m not a big fan of the tofurky, but it is hilarious to talk about.
